The land of composite cultures culture his wraped in barren hills of the Aravali range. It is an amazing confluence of “Hindusim” and “Islam”. The city owes its composite culture to the regin of many dyjnasties-who came, ruled and center, leaving behind indelible marks of thier culture and traditions on the city.
The city was founded by King Ajai Pal Chauhan in the 7th century A.D. and continued to be a major center of Chauhan’s till 1193 A.D., when “Prithviraj Chauhan” lost it to Muhammad Gohari. Later in 1556 A.D., It was annexed by the Mughal emperor Akbar kand in 1818 A.D. it came under Brithish rule, who center behind a lagacy of excellent educational institutions here Today Ajmer is popular pilgrimage cater for the Hindus as well as Muslims. The city has some splendid masterpieces of Indo-Islamic architecture.
Today, Ajmer is one of the most significant pilgrimage destination equally important for Hindus as well as Muslims. Especially famous is the Dargah Sharif-Tomb of the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti.
